Record-Breaking Fuel Good Day to Fund New Wheelchair Accessible Van for the Movement Centre

Red River Co-op’s Fuel Good Day once again brought the community together for a meaningful cause, raising a record-breaking $180,000 on September 15 for the Movement Centre of Manitoba. The funds will purchase a new wheelchair accessible van, restoring reliable transportation for children, youth and adults living with neuromotor disabilities and ensuring access to essential programs and services offered by the Centre.

“The overwhelming support from Red River Co-op and the community through Fuel Good Day was incredible,” said Jennifer Wojcik, Executive Director of the Movement Centre of Manitoba. “Because of everyone’s generosity and commitment, our dream of purchasing a new wheelchair accessible van is now becoming a reality. This van will create many moments of joy, independence and connection for our clients as an extension of our program for years to come.”

The new wheelchair accessible van will serve as a vital resource for clients and families who rely on accessible transportation to participate in the Centre’s specialized rehabilitation programs. More than simply getting clients from one place to another, the van will help remove barriers to participation, providing safe and reliable access to life-changing therapy and opportunities for greater community connection and inclusion.

The incredible success of Fuel Good Day would not have been possible without their support and generosity," said Craig Gilpin, CEO of Red River Co-op. “Every till donation, litre of fuel, cup of coffee, Big Cool and car wash helped us move closer to our goal, and together, we’ve made a meaningful difference for the Movement Centre of Manitoba. Since Fuel Good Day’s launch in 2017, Red River Co-op has contributed more than $775,000 to local non-profits. Each year, Red River Co-op donates a minimum of five cents per litre of fuel sold, alongside proceeds from Big Cools, Co-operative Coffee, car washes, and member and customer donations at tills in Gas Bars and Food Stores, all fueling positive change across our communities.

Red River Co-op’s Fuel Good Day was also supported by Federated Cooperatives Limited’s Community Match Fund. Through the fund, FCL matches contributions made by local Co-ops, helping extend the reach and impact of community initiatives.
