Harvest Hero
April 20, 2020

The COVID-19 pandemic has left many disadvantaged, including the local families, food banks and at-risk individuals supported by Winnipeg Harvest. Because of this, there has been a significant spike in emergency requests from thousands of Manitobans.

Calls to Winnipeg Harvest's Emergency Food Line are up 30% and food donations are down 60%. With school and daycare closures, kids who rely on weekly food programs no longer have access to a reliable source of daily food. Unprecedented layoffs and job losses are causing significant financial stress for families, especially those living cheque to cheque. An estimated 64,000 Manitobans have applied for EI. Winnipeg Harvest anticipates that they will we need to feed a record 90,000 Manitobans in April.

Red River Co-op is proud to support Harvest Hero, a radiothon in support of Winnipeg Harvest with 99.9 BOB FM, TSN 1290 and 103.1 Virgin Radio. Every dollar donated on April 22 between 6:00AM and 6:00PM will be matched up to $100,000 by an anonymous donor.
